The ask.

The scope

Jato is a leading provider of automotive data and intelligence. Their product suite offers a wealth of information on vehicles, including specifications, pricing, and availability. The ask was to redesign their website, with a focus on improving the user experience and better showcasing the value of their product. Through a combination of content workshops, wireframing, and navigation/site map development, we were able to create a website that effectively communicated the value of Jato's product and met the needs of their target audience. In this case study, I'll share more about the process we went through and the decisions we made.

Content Workshops

The first step in the redesign process was to conduct a series of content workshops with Jato's team. During these workshops, we worked together to identify the most important information that should be included on the website and how it should be structured and presented to users.

The content workshops were critical in shaping the website's overall structure and messaging and ensured that the content was tailored to meet the needs of Jato's target audience.

Navigation and Site Maps

As part of the content workshops and wireframing process, we also focused on the navigation and site map of the website. Through the content workshops, we identified the most important information that should be included on the website and how it should be grouped together.

This information was then used to develop the site map and information architecture for the website. We worked together to define the top-level categories and how they would be organised to create a clear and intuitive structure for users.

We presented Jato with three different navigational options. The first focused on the needs and interests of the users, the second focused on the specific problem Jato's product could solve, and the third focused on Jato's expertise in the field.

After careful consideration and discussion, we collectively decided to go with the third option, as it allowed for a clear and effective presentation of Jato's expertise in the market.

The end result was a clear and intuitive navigation structure that made it easy for users to find the information they were looking for.

The site map and information architecture were tailored to meet the needs of Jato's target audience, ensuring that the website was user-friendly and effective in communicating the value of their product.

Navigation and Site Maps

After finalizing the content structure and navigation, we moved on to the wireframing stage of the design process. Wireframing is a critical step in UX design as it helps to establish the overall layout and functionality of the website before moving on to the visual design stage.

During the wireframing stage, we created mid-fidelity wireframes that showcased the different pages and layouts of the website. We ensured that the wireframes were consistent with the agreed-upon site map and navigation, while also taking into consideration the different user journeys and touch-points on the website.

We also paid close attention to the usability and accessibility of the website during the wireframing stage. We tested the wireframes with different user scenarios to ensure that the layout and functionality were intuitive and user-friendly.

As part of the wireframing process, we also collaborated with Jato's team to refine the user experience and address any concerns or feedback they had. We made revisions and adjustments to the wireframes based on their input, ensuring that the final product met their needs and expectations

Overall, the wireframing stage played a crucial role in establishing the UX design of Jato's website. It allowed us to create a functional, intuitive layout that met the needs of the user while also showcasing the value of Jato's product. By working collaboratively and testing the wireframes with different user scenarios, we were able to identify and address potential usability issues early on in the design process, resulting in a more effective and user-friendly website.

Wireframing

Conclusion

Once the mid-fidelity wireframes were complete, I handed them off to a UI designer who worked closely with Jato's team to finalise the design. They added visual elements such as images, icons, and illustrations to enhance the design and create a more visually engaging experience. Throughout the collaboration with the UI designer, I remained involved in the process to ensure that the final design aligned with the original wireframes and content strategy.

The end result was a modern and visually appealing website that effectively communicated the value of Jato's product. The website had a clear and intuitive navigation structure, making it easy for users to find the information they were looking for.

In conclusion, my work with Jato focused on content workshops and wire-framing, which were critical in shaping the website's overall structure and messaging. By collaborating closely with Jato's team, I was able to create a website that effectively communicated the value of their product and met the needs of their target audience. The mid-fidelity wireframes provided a solid foundation for the UI designer to build upon, resulting in a visually engaging and effective design. Overall, my approach to UX design helped to create a website that was not only aesthetically pleasing but also met the needs of Jato's users.
